The scientific name of King Cobra is Ophiophagus hunnah. The King Cobra is considered to be the longest snake with the venomous feature. The approximate length of the King Cobra is about 5.6 m. The wild snakes under the species King Cobra are spread throughout the Southeastern part of Asia and parts of India mainly in the forest areas. The King Cobra is really known for its aggressiveness and dangerous attitude. However, due to the destruction of the forests its frequency seems to be diminishing.
The name King Cobra seems to be suggesting the belongingness of this species from the Cobra family but actually it belongs to its own genus. Therefore, in order to identify the difference of the King Cobra from the other cobra is by identifying the size and the figures that appear on their necks. The size of the King Cobra is observed to be more than the size of other cobras.
The genus from which the King Cobra belongs is the Ophiophagus that means snake eaters. The diet of King Cobra consists of the other snakes that may include the rat snakes, sizeable pythons and others such as kraits, cobras, etc. The people who are bitten by this species have a negligible or a very little chance of survival. The king Cobra prefers as their diet the toxic snakes that may include the kraits as well as the non toxic snakes that may include the pythons.
During the scarcity, King Cobra may also feed on the other vertebrates such as the lizards, rodents, etc. The most common meal that is preferred by the King Cobra includes the rat snakes that are so called as they feed on the rats. This connects the King Cobra to humans indirectly as the rats are attracted by the human settlements.
